Owing to its calmness and serenity, Bhairabkunda attracts couples and families alike. It is situated on the border of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh, near the Bhutanese town of Daifam. The Jampani River, originating in Bhutan, and Bhairabi River merge here to form Dhanshiri River and forms a lovely view to behold. Dhansiri is one of most important tributaries of River Brahmaputra and also has a dam. It is in the shape of a kunda, which means worshipping place of Shiva and that is where the name Bhairabkunda came from.

There is a famous Shiva temple nearby and is visited by devotees all year round. Geographically, the temple is a part of Bhutan though it can be visited by Indians.

Daifam, the Bhutanese town is famous for wine trade and you can visit this place as well. The local guides will help you to see the innate operating wine centers.

Bathing in the river is possible as the water is not every deep, thus it is an enjoyable leisure activity for families and kids.

Best Time to Visit

Winter is the best time to visit Bhairabkunda. The season starts from November and continues till March. Summers are hot and humid with occasional rainfall. While it rains a lot during monsoon, and you should avoid it.

Getting There

Direct cabs are available from the nearest railway station and town, Udalguri. The bus stand at Udalguri has private car rental agencies from where you can take taxis to reach Bhairabkunda. Buses ply daily from Guwahati and Itanagar to Udalguri.
